IndoClimate

A conversational AI system for sharing climate change information and policy updates in Indonesia.

Overview

IndoClimate is a conversational AI system built to help disseminate climate change information and policy updates within the Indonesian context. It is part of the KONEKSI programme, a knowledge partnership funded by the Indonesian and Australian governments (2023–2025), carried out with Deakin University.

Motivation

Climate policy and scientific findings are often communicated in formats that are hard for a general audience to navigate, and Indonesian-language material is comparatively scarce. IndoClimate packages that information behind a chat interface so that people can ask questions in natural language and get grounded, context-appropriate answers.

What it does

  • Answers user questions about climate change and related policy in Indonesian.
  • Grounds responses in curated source material to support the counter-infodemic goal of the wider project.
  • Is deployed as a public tool rather than a research prototype only.

Team

  • UGM: Arif Nurwidyantoro, Yunita Sari, Muhammad Oriza Nurfajri, Faturahman Yudanto
  • Deakin University: Xiao Liu, Oscar Wu

Funding and partners

  • KONEKSI (Knowledge Partnership Platform Australia–Indonesia), funded by the Australian and Indonesian governments (2023–2025).
  • The collaboration with Deakin University began with a KONEKSI ECC grant accepted in 2023.

Status

The chatbot is operational and hosted on the Counter Infodemic website at counterinfodemic.org/tool/indo-chatbot.
